Though some roles on a film or television set attract more attention than others, filmmaking is ultimately a team effort. Directors guide the creative direction of the film or TV show, the director of photography controls the look of the film, and the editor ties the entire story together. However, before the production begins, before its’ inception, there is one crew member working behind the scenes to pull the production together: the producer.

Mayor Bill de Blasio will deliver his State of the City address this morning at 11AM.   

He is expected to talk more about the policy initiatives he announced earlier this week, like providing health care for all New Yorkers and mandatory paid personal time for employees.  He is expected to announce more initiatives and goals for the city.

Returning MNN Producer Michelle Nieves’ journey in public access television began in 1984. She worked as an independent producer at Paragon Cable Studios, which has since been absorbed by Spectrum Cable. In 1992, Michelle became a Certified Producer and began creating content for her first show called “Beauty and Burlesque.”

New York City voters are going back to the ballots!  NYC Public Advocate Special Election Officially Set for February 26. This race is expected to have more than two dozen candidates.

This past week, Mayor Bill de Blasio signed a proclamation setting February 26th as the date for the New York City’s Public Advocate special election.  

Who is the Public Advocate? The Public Advocate is the second highest-ranking elected official in the city, who champions the public and ensures the city's agencies are responsive to their needs.  

Why is there a Special Election?

MNN’s Media Education Department offers a variety of classes and workshops on video production that is primarily technical, but we also host a bi-monthly event that gives our producers a chance to talk about their show ideas and receive feedback. Producers may also ask for production support from their peers. This event is called MNN’s Mediamaker Meetup and the next one is on Wednesday, January 30th.
